Townhomes
A Townhome is a single family dwelling attached to the adjacent homes by a party wall. Each Townhome is considered an indiviual tax lot, where you can own the land below your property.
Condominiums
Condominiums are multi-unit dwellings where the owner posses the unit but not the land under-neath. These owners have shared interrest in the communal areas.
Single Family
Single family homes sit on their own parcels of land and are not attached to any other dwellings. These proprietors own the house and all the land within the property lines.
There is a real estate term called “outside entry.” An outside entry is a doorway that leads directly from a house to the outside. Townhomes always have outside entry. Thus, from a townhome, you can walk out your door and look up at the sky. There is nothing between your living space and the great outdoors but a door. No dark hallways or sterile lobbies. There is something about an outside entry that has an immense appeal. It helps people feel less closed in and less claustrophobic in their living space.
While people have an almost biological desire for outside entry, people also crave a small piece of land, be it to set up a barbeque, tend to a small garden, or relax in a hammock. It is the instinctive wish for these two things; and outside entry and a bit of a yard. The combination of these wishes and the escalating property values in the city have led to Seattle’s townhome renaissance.
Townhomes are springing up all over Seattle, creating lively urban villages all over the city. Here there is a strong sense of community and security, where people can visit shops and restaurants without even getting in their cars. Townhomes are also popular as they offered higher security- you have a neighbor on the other side of the wall.
